The New Year makes you look back at the year that’s been.
It was a busy year for My Way Access, as I usually had something in the pipelines.
I started off by delivering a talk for Little Penny Thoughts as part of their Wellness From Within awareness drive.
I worked closely with Omniplex Cinemas to ensure that Omniplex Omagh met the needs of the people with disabilities in the community.
I met did a talk alongside Martina Anderson MEP for Leonard Cheshire about the affect Brexit will have for those with disabilities.
I had a meeting at Disability Action NIwith a group of like minded people with the UK Parliament to combat cyberbullying against people with disabilities.
Along with Moving On – Leonard Cheshire Northern Ireland and Transport For All, I visited Belfast to inspect the Translink Glider for accessibility.
I met with South West College to advise them on building new boards and bodies to meet the needs of the disabled students within the College across all campsies in Fermanagh and Tyrone. I’ve since been informed, by ideas could be used now in all Colleges across Northern Ireland.
I also started a part time course in the College, doing Level 4 in Counselling. It is something I have always been interested in, but never got round to doing. Certain events made me realise the importance of mental health in the last 12 months, so this was an opportunity for me to give back.
For International Day for Persons with Disabilities, I delivered a talk in Omagh for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council about what it is like as a man living with a disability in the district.
To finish off a busy year, I had a meeting with the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland about getting more people with disabilities involved in politics and public bodies to ensure our voices are heard. This relationship between us two will be continuing into 2019.
On a personal note, it has been a difficult year for me, having lost two members of my family. I will always remember them and honour them with my work 💖
Happy New Year from My Way Access. I hope it is a success for you all, full of happiness and joy.
