Privately owned and family run, The Mellon Country Inn is a newly refurbished hotel situated on the Beltany road between Omagh and Strabane. With a bit of traditional Irish flare and a touch of New York, the Mellon Country Inn guests will enjoy the comfort and elegance of an era long establishment complemented by the most modern of facilities.
There is plenty of parking on-site at The Mellon, there are two dedicated disabled spaces. There is a slight slope in the car park, so if using a wheelchair, take care in which way you park.
When accessing the Bar / Restaurant, the best point of entrance is via the hotel room entry on the far left of the building. This provides the best access to the restaurant, as you’ll have to use steps inside the building via the other entrance.
The doors are heavy, but at the hotel room door, there is a call button to alert a member of staff that you are looking in. However, I had noticed that this was out of my reach and could pose similar issues for other clientele.
The reception desk, restaurant pay-point or bar do not have any lower sections for people who use a wheelchair or are low in stature, but the staff are aware of this and are very accommodating in helping where needs be.
There is a disabled toilet in the restaurant, which is a good size to accommodate all sizes of wheelchairs. However the doors to access it are heavy and would require assistance.
The three sections of The Mellon are all on different floor levels, with steps and doors adjoining them. This is impossible for people who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids, so they have to go outside and enter via different access points to these sections.
* Chatting to senior members of management on my review, I was informed that they are currently getting ramps quoted in the near future and fitted, so that people with disabilities do not have to suffer the embarrassment to having to leave the party they are with, to take the indirect route. They have agreed to keep me in the loop and the design of the new ramps*
