Conor Allison – Fundraising for Leonard Cheshire Disability & Moving On Project

Conor Allison has agreed to fund-raise for Leonard Cheshire Disability and the Moving on Project in the Spring/Summer 2016.

Leonard Cheshire supports individuals with a physical, sensory or acquired brain injury. I’ve chosen to fund-raise particularly for Leonard Cheshire’s “Moving On Project”, because not only did I attend this group myself for many years, but I am also now act as a mentor for the group.

As someone who has a disability, I recognise the challenges of seeking employment for someone with extra needs or challenges. The “Moving On Project” specifically focuses on supporting 16-19 year olds with a who are disengaged or at risk of disengagement from education to improve their skill set and reach their potential.

This vital project aims to increase a young person’s inclusion within society, their educational/employment prospects and perhaps most significantly their confidence, self-esteem and self-worth too. All of which, I think are invaluable not only for the group member themselves but also in terms of improving society’s attitude towards disability so that everyone is acknowledged primarily for their abilities before their disabilities.

So to help raise money for this amazing cause, I’m organising a charity auction and skydive. This is something I’ve always wanted to do but as a person with a disability, it’s not something I ever thought would be feasible. Yet, by organising it and putting my mind into it, I’ve proved to myself that with a bit of self-belief and determination anything is possible.

I will be advertising on radio/newspaper and also have an online “JustGiving” page. All money raised through this event will go directly those at Leonard Cheshire.

As part of his fundraising efforts, Conor has agreed to:

  • Complete the Carrickmore 10k run
  • Complete a 1 mile swim in the Omagh Leisure Centre
  • Organise coffee morning in the Cookstown/Omagh areas
  • Organise a ‘bag pack’ at the ASDA supermarket in Cookstown

This will culminate with a skydive with Conor, and a member of the project team completing this with moon-jumper in July/August time.

If any businesses would like to support Conor on his fund raising campaign, he will be organising an auction draw, details of which will be announced at a later date. Please sponsor any prizes or donations if possible.
