Old Bushmills Distillery is located on the beautiful north coast in Co. Antrim. It is home to the Irish Whiskey, Bushmills Whiskey.
On arriving at the distillery tour, there was ample disabled parking beside the ramped walk way down to the reception area. It was well laid out and had a good surface for wheelchairs.
Upon entering the main reception area, the desk was very high for wheelchair users. I was then informed that the tour is not available for disabled people, as the bulk part of the tour takes place down 40 steps and it there is no elevator on the premises. I was instead offered a complimentary ticket for a sample of whiskey or a soft drink in the bar.
The bar itself was located in another building. Again, access down to it was excellent. Smooth surfaces and very picturquest. It was styled on an olde style English village. Once inside the bar, again the counter was very high for anyone in a wheelchair to ask for a drink themselves.
There is a disabled toilet within the premises and it was kept in immaculate condition. Kept of room to maneuver the largest of wheelchairs and a nice comfortable seat for any helper or carer to sit on as well.
